By 39% less are the areas sown with sunflowers, by minus 56% is corn – Agro Plovdiv

Less sown with sunflowermaize and spring barley areas were established at the end of April in our country.

According to the data of the regional agricultural commissions, a little over 411 thousand ha were occupied with the oilseed crop, while at the same time in 2022 the areas were 669,460 ha. The difference is minus 39 percent.

In the case of corn, 148,556 ha were sown by the end of April, more than twice as much (55.8%) as last year – 336,239 ha.

Spring barley is on 10% less area than at the end of April 2022. It occupied 1,125 hectares.

Fewer areas with spring flowers are due not only to the rainy spring, but mostly to the abnormal market situation in our country related to the war in Ukraine and the inadequate behavior of politicians.

In the last week of April, only 57.8 thousand tons of wheat and another 29.4 thousand tons of barley were exported from the country. No sunflower was exported for another week, and the weekly corn export was 45.7 thousand tons, according to data from the two seaports.

SAPI reports that the average price for bread wheat it is BGN 426 per ton (at BGN 644 in 2022), and for fodder wheat at BGN 404 (at BGN 626 per year).

Oilseed sunflower has more than doubled in price compared to the end of April last year. The last announced price is BGN 723/t compared to BGN 1,672 a year earlier.

Corn fell from BGN 596 at the end of April 2022 to BGN 422 at the end of April 2023.
