ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE – Yves Pozzo di Borgo, centrist senator for 13 years and vice-president of the Foreign and Military Affairs Committee, discusses current events and their burning subjects in the context of this Essential Interview.

With a long experience as a member of the national representation, as a parliamentarian, accustomed to debates relating to international politics, Yves Pozzo di Borgo evokes in particular the history of the ratification of the Minsk agreements and their significance.

In 2014, the former senator was on the presidential plane alongside François Hollande, President of the Republic, while the latter was traveling to Moscow to discuss the final details with President Putin about these agreements.

For Yves Pozzo di Borgo, the recent declarations of François Hollande and Angela Merkel on the subject of the Minsk agreements are a form of rewriting of history which does not pass: it makes international law lose all credibility and distorts the word of our States, particularly in the diplomatic field.

He also refers to Emmanuel Macron’s recent statement not to “to be the followers of the United States” by evaluating the possible biases of such remarks, while considering it as the most important declaration of the President of the Republic at the present time.

At the risk of being attacked on social networks, on which the former senator is very present, Yves Pozzo di Borgo, declares that “even if there is only a 1% chance that Emmanuel Macron will be aligned with his statement, we must support it”.
