BYU Women’s Volleyball Victorious in Rivalry Game Against Utah

PROVO, Utah – It was a night to remember for BYU women’s volleyball as they emerged victorious in a thrilling rivalry game against Utah. The 12th-ranked Cougars bounced back from a loss last Friday to Washington State and defeated the Utes 3-1 in front of a record-breaking crowd at the Smith Fieldhouse.

A total of 5,528 fans packed the arena, making it the largest crowd ever to witness a women’s volleyball game at Smith Fieldhouse. This attendance surpassed the previous record of 5,507 set last year against Duke. The electric atmosphere fueled BYU’s intensity and set the stage for an exciting match.

Star outside hitter Erin Livingston led the charge for BYU, recorded 16 kills throughout the game. Freshman standout Claire Little also made her presence felt with 14 kills, making a significant contribution to the team’s victory. Little’s performance was particularly impressive considering she had previously experienced two matches without a single kill against UC Irvine and Washington State.

The win improved BYU’s overall record to an impressive 9-1, solidifying their position as a strong contender in the women’s volleyball scene. In contrast, Utah’s record dropped below .500 to 4-5 for the season.

The match unfolded with BYU dominating the first set, ultimately winning 25-13. Utah, however, fought back in the second set and secured a narrow 25-23 victory. Following that, BYU regained control and cruised to victory, winning the next two sets 25-19 and 25-16, respectively.

With their non-conference schedules nearing their end, both BYU and Utah are now looking ahead to their upcoming league play. BYU will face off against in-state rivals UVU and Utah State on Friday and Saturday, respectively, before commencing their inaugural Big 12 Conference schedule at home against Houston on September 20. Meanwhile, Utah will wrap up their non-conference schedule against Weber State before starting their Pac-12 season against Colorado on September 21.

The victory against Utah further solidifies BYU women’s volleyball as a dominant force in the sport. Fans of the team, known as Cougar Nation, came out in full force and showed their unwavering support. BYU is now looking forward to building on this success and making a strong impact in their conference play.
