Jets Linebacker C.J. Mosley Happy for Former Teammate Joe Flacco After Browns Clinch Playoff Spot
In Thursday night’s matchup between the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns, Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley couldn’t help feeling good for one of the guys who beat him. The Browns quarterback Joe Flacco, a former teammate of Mosley’s, played a pivotal role in leading his team to a 37-20 victory.
Mosley and Flacco were teammates with the Baltimore Ravens from 2014-2018, and again with the Jets in recent years. After the Browns clinched a playoff spot, Mosley made sure to find Flacco and express his happiness for his former teammate. Despite the loss, Mosley embraced Flacco and congratulated him on the achievement. Browns fans were chanting Flacco’s name during the game, a moment that left both players in disbelief.
In a statement to Jake Trotter of ESPN.com, Mosley shared, “Everybody always joked, even in Baltimore, was he elite? He’s showing it. Not a lot of guys, especially veterans like him and his age, just coming from home, hanging with his kids, do what he’s done. I told him after the game it’s crazy to hear the Browns fans screaming, ‘Flacco!’ That was pretty wild to me, but I’m happy for him. Obviously, we wanted to get the win, but just as a friend, as a fan, I’m definitely happy for him.”
The story of Flacco’s resurgence has been a highlight of the 2023 season, leaving some to wonder if the Jets would have fared better by bringing him back in the wake of Aaron Rodgers’ injury. However, Mosley chose to take a different path.
The camaraderie and mutual respect between Mosley and Flacco demonstrates the bonds formed through years of shared experiences in the NFL.
