Speaking at the ordinary session of the Moroccan Sahara query”>UN Committee of 24 (June 10-21), Benin’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Marc Hermanne Araba indicated that the autonomy plan is qualified as credible and serious in successive Security Council resolutions since 2007.
He highlighted the involvement of partner and friendly countries, notably African, Arab and Latin American nations which opened consulates general in the cities of Laâyoune and Dakhla.
The Beninese diplomat also welcomed the participation of representatives of the Moroccan Sahara, democratically re-elected during the ballot of September 8, 2021, in the C24 regional seminars, the most recent of which was held in Caracas from May 14 to 16. .
Reiterating his country’s full support for the political process, carried out under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and whose aim is to achieve a peaceful, lasting solution, accepted by all and based on compromise, the diplomat welcomed the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the UN SG for the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, aiming to facilitate the relaunch of the political process.
He invited the parties concerned to remain engaged and to do everything possible to resume, as soon as possible, the round table process, according to the format and modalities recommended by Security Council resolution 2703.
