The panel conducted various studies and submitted its report to the Central Government in December recommending raising the minimum age of marriage for women from 18 to 21.

In this context, the Union Cabinet has approved raising the minimum age of marriage for women from 18 to 21 on the recommendation of a panel headed by Jaya Jaitley.

The bill, which raises the minimum age of marriage for women to 21 after approval by the Union Cabinet, is expected to be tabled in Parliament soon and come into force.

It is noteworthy that the minimum age of marriage for men in India is 21.
