Cabinet proposes to sell gold reserves to tackle dollar shortage

A cabinet memorandum was reportedly submitted last week on the sale of the country’s gold reserves to boost the cash flow of foreign reserves.

Different views have been put forward by different ministers. According to the Sinhala media, it is proposed to seek the advice of experts in this regard.

Accordingly, no final decision was taken on this at the last Cabinet meeting.
