Cabourg: Madison Garbo, the florist-singer overcoming cancer to bloom on stage

A Florist’s Resilience: From Cabourg Boutique to the Stage

Allison Bogard leads a double life in the coastal town of Cabourg, France. By day, she’s the proprietor of “Arômes &amp. Sens,” a flower shop known for its vibrant displays. But when the shop closes, Bogard transforms into Madison Garbo, a singer whose aesthetic is deeply rooted in the natural world. This dual existence, however, has been tested by a series of setbacks – a pandemic, a cancer diagnosis – that threatened to silence her musical ambitions. Now, after years of perseverance, Madison Garbo is finally preparing to take the stage, a testament to her unwavering spirit.

For two decades, Bogard has cultivated a reputation as “la femme végétale” – the vegetable woman – in Cabourg. Her shop, a haven of floral scents and colors, reflects her passion for nature. But this passion extends beyond arrangement and retail; it’s the core of her artistic identity as Madison Garbo. The stage name itself is a playful construction: “Mad” for her idol Madonna, “ison” from the complete of her first name, and “Garbo” a reversal of her family name.

Bogard’s musical journey began nearly 15 years ago, blossoming into two albums and several music videos. Her performances are visually striking, incorporating floral crowns, pivoine microphones, and a commitment to celebrating the beauty of the natural world. “It’s something magical, what nature offers us,” she explained in an interview with France 3 Normandie. “We must respect it and showcase it.”

A Dream Deferred, Then Delayed

Bogard envisioned a grand stage show, complete with an elaborate, plant-based set design. She secured a date – April 4, 2020 – and poured her energy into preparations. However, the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic brought those plans to a standstill. “We were confined 15 days before,” she recalled. “Two years of perform just vanished.”

Faced with the immediate need to protect her business and employees, Bogard temporarily shelved her musical aspirations. She focused on sustaining “Arômes & Sens” through the economic uncertainty. Once the shop was stable, she reignited her musical pursuits, releasing a second album and rescheduling the concert for April 8, 2023.

But fate intervened again. In December 2022, Bogard received a stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis. “It was time to get serious,” she said. The diagnosis forced her to postpone the concert once more, embarking on a grueling course of chemotherapy and hormone therapy. The treatments took a physical toll, impacting her strength and breath.

“Ce Soir-Là, Je Fais Tapis” – Tonight, I’m Ready

Now, three years later, Bogard is preparing for her concert, “Métamorphose,” at La Sall’in, a performance venue in Cabourg. She’s a whirlwind of activity, coordinating with the artist designing the botanical stage, distributing flyers, managing social media, and finalizing her floral costume. A video portrait of Bogard, shared by France 3 Normandie, captures this energy.

“Ce soir-là, je fais tapis,” she says – “Tonight, I’m ready.” The concert represents the culmination of 15 years of struggle, the end of a challenging journey. Bogard views this performance not just as a personal triumph, but as an example for her 14-year-old daughter. “I need to seem at myself in the mirror and be proud,” she stated in a quote shared with France 3 Normandie. “I try to show my daughter an example, to show her that her mother fights, that she undertakes things. You must never stop, always believe in yourself, constantly push your limits.”

Beyond Cabourg: A Vision for the Future

Bogard isn’t simply content with a single performance. The “Métamorphose” concert will be professionally filmed, serving as a promotional tool as she seeks opportunities to perform at festivals. Her ambition is to tour with her unique stage show – a modular, transportable botanical creation.

Bogard is prepared for success, and for whatever challenges may come. She has demonstrated a remarkable ability to overcome obstacles, transforming setbacks into opportunities. Her story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of pursuing one’s passions.

The concert is scheduled for April 18, 2026, at La Sall’in in Cabourg. More information about the event can be found on the Cabourg tourism website.
