A 27-year-old Slovak faces a serious charge of poaching. At the beginning of August, he was supposed to shoot a deer that was wandering on the edge of Čadka in the morning. He gutted it on the spot and then took it home. He eventually sold off some of the game.

The deer often went to graze in the meadow near the housing development. In addition to the grass, he nibbled on fruit trees or dug up a few potatoes from the field. The locals were used to him. Several times they even managed to take pictures of his broken antlers.

The accused was driving through an urban area when he noticed a 150-kilogram ten-footer. The man did not hesitate for a moment and pulled out a legally owned shotgun from the trunk of the car. He wounded the animal with the first shot and killed it with the second.

“The perpetrator then gutted the deer, separated its head and antlers from the body and loaded everything into a motor vehicle. He took the animal to the village of Čierne, where he cut it into smaller parts. He subsequently sold them,” Zuzana Hrabovská, spokeswoman for the police presidium, told JOJ television.

The accused caused damage to the local hunting association in the amount of 1,900 euros, i.e. roughly 45,000 crowns. The price was determined according to the value of the meat and the trophy. The authorities measured the lost social value at another 2,000 euros, i.e. less than 50,000 crowns.

“The offender is liable to imprisonment for one to five years for this crime,” added Hrabovská.
