Cairo Award, the new edition between contemporary art and zero impact – Corriere.it

by time news

From recent statistics, the vocation of artist emerges before the age of 18 (71.4% of cases), it was cultivated by attending art schools (45.6%) but it hardly leads to a profession: about 63% of Italian artists perform another profession as consultants, teachers, employees or as a designer, graphic designer, stylist, photographer or videomaker. One point unites everyone: the majority of artists find it difficult to sell their works: only a percentage of less than 19% can do it easily.

The Cairo Prize offers everyone an opportunity, now in its 21st edition, over time it has become the most concrete opportunity for young artists in Italy, with twenty finalists selected by the editorial staff of the monthly Arte (Cairo Editore), directed by Michele Bonuomo, who will present their works to a jury of critics and museum directors called to evaluate the best.

Born in 2000 with the aim of identifying the best young artists under 40 (the first winner was Luca Pignatelli, who then made a brilliant career, with Chiara Dynys first female finalist), the Cairo Prize offers young artists the dual opportunity to live an experience and consolidate in the world of national and international art, such as the exhibitions at the Biennale by 41 of the artists of the previous editions demonstrate. A prize of 25 thousand euros is also provided for the first classified.

The 21st edition will be held from 5 to 10 October at Palazzo Reale in Milan and will mark the restart of the world of Italian contemporary art. The award will see LifeGate, a benefit company that deals with a sustainable future, as a partner. This will allow the exhibition to have zero impact by compensating for the environmental impact with interventions for the creation and protection of forests. has also been renewed media partnership with the Corriere della Sera, which will host the live streaming of the event on corriere.it. Information on the award is available on the site premiocairo.com while the Instagram page @premiocairo will allow you to know the finalists and see the highlight of the opening night.

At the same time, always at the Royal Palace, the works of the Art Award, born in 1985 and aimed at non-professional artists and students of Academies and Art Schools, will be exhibited. The award is divided into four thematic sections (painting, sculpture, photography, graphics) with 40 finalists selected by the editorial staff of Arte. The award includes the assignment of the Gold Plate for each section, to which two new plates are added this year: the Instagram Plate, awarded to the most voted artist on the Instagram page @ Premio.arte and the Ambient Plate, assigned to the best operates on the theme of sustainability. The Prize also includes scholarships.
