by times news cr

In this context, a meeting was held on Thursday at the conference room of the Higher Council of Culture, to pay tribute to the pioneer of Moroccan theater, the late Tayeb Saddiki, with the participation of Moroccan critics and playwrights Hassan Nafali, Hassan Bahraoui, Abdelouahed Benyasser, and Egyptian playwright Amrou Douara.

At the beginning of this meeting, the son of the deceased, Bakr Saddiki, expressed, in a video intervention, his pride and gratitude for holding this meeting, stressing that the late wished, before the end of his long and rich artistic career, to create his own theater under the name “Mogador theater”.

The participants in this meeting took turns to discuss the multiple facets of the personality and artistic work of the deceased, considered a true pioneer of Moroccan theater through his great contributions in this field.

In this regard, they considered that this son of Essaouira was an accomplished artist with multiple facets (painter, calligrapher, scenographic designer, actor and director).

The Egyptian playwright affirmed, on this occasion, that Tayeb Saddiki constitutes one of the pioneers of theatrical creation in the Arab world, part of a small group whose experience has crossed geographical borders, managing to occupy a prominent place on the chessboard of Arab theater.

Hassan Nafali, for his part, recalled, in a video intervention, that the deceased came from a rich cultural background, being a native of a city with an exceptional cultural and civilizational cachet, and coming from a family that nourished a great passion for art and culture, with his brothers Said and Seddik who were respectively a writer and an expert in decoration, all factors that say a lot about the training of the deceased.

The writer and critic Hassan Bahraoui, for his part, considered that Tayeb Saddiki succeeded in establishing and developing his own conception of Moroccan theatre, despite his French-speaking training, because of his interest in Arab-Islamic culture.

In this context, he noted that the works of the deceased have radiated beyond the local framework, providing testimony on the history and social issues in Morocco, to touch the world as a whole.

Theater critic Abdelouahed Ben Yasser noted that “there are those who choose theater and those who are chosen by the father of the arts,” stressing that Tayeb Saddiki was one of the pioneers of the show, with great experience in the art of Halka theater.

This edition of the Cairo International Experimental Theatre Festival, which runs until September 11, is distinguished by a Moroccan presence at the various events and activities. The Kingdom is thus represented by the play “Fatair Atoufah” (Apple Pies) by the troupe “Douze Tmasra7”, directed by Abdeljabar Khamrane and written by the Sudanese Amjad Abu Alala.

The scenography and choreography of this play, performed by Rajae Kharmaz, Zineb Ennajem, Noureddine Saadane and Zakaria Haddouchi, were designed respectively by Youssef El Arkoubi and Taoufiq Izeddiou.
