Caldwell University in Recent Jersey is embracing a new era of immersive learning, partnering with Dreamscape Learn to bring cinematic virtual reality experiences into its classrooms beginning this academic year. The move positions Caldwell at the forefront of a growing national trend toward experiential education, aiming to deepen student engagement and improve academic outcomes through cutting-edge technology. This initiative represents a significant investment in the future of teaching and learning, particularly in fields like science, where complex concepts can be brought to life in dynamic, interactive environments. The core of this effort is to redefine how students connect with core disciplines, utilizing storytelling and immersive technology to foster a deeper understanding of the material.
The partnership with Dreamscape Learn will integrate virtual reality into labs and coursework, offering professional development for educators and opportunities for students to create their own VR content. Located on the second floor of the Jennings Library, the new immersive learning space will serve as a hub for innovation and exploration. Caldwell University is too exploring collaborations for grant-supported research and plans to extend access to immersive learning to local schools and community organizations, demonstrating a commitment to broader educational impact. This expansion of access is a key component of the university’s vision for the program.
A New Approach to Experiential Education
Dr. Jeffrey D. Senese, President of Caldwell University, emphasized the importance of immersive technology as a tool for deeper engagement. “As a teaching and learning university, we see immersive technology as a powerful tool for deeper engagement and meaningful learning,” he said. “Together, we’re bringing the next generation of experiential education to our campus, strengthening our mission to foster intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and real-world readiness. This collaboration reflects our commitment to preparing Caldwell students not only for academic achievement, but for impactful lives of leadership and service.” The university, consistently ranked among the Top 100 Universities in the North by U.S. News &. World Report, sees this as a natural extension of its commitment to providing a transformative, outcomes-driven education.
Dreamscape Learn’s approach centers on transporting students into immersive narratives where they become active participants – scientists, explorers, and investigators – tackling real-world challenges in interactive worlds. Josh Reibel, CEO of Dreamscape Learn, highlighted the power of storytelling in education. “Story has always been the most powerful driver of learning, connecting knowledge to imagination and making ideas unforgettable,” Reibel stated. “From the moment students first entered our immersive experiences, we’ve seen them engage, work harder, and achieve at higher levels. This partnership with Caldwell University will give students the chance to explore together in new ways that expand how they learn and what they believe is possible.”
Proven Results at Arizona State University
The foundation for this partnership lies in the success of Dreamscape Learn at Arizona State University (ASU). A recent study at ASU revealed that students utilizing Dreamscape Learn’s immersive biology lab were nearly twice as likely to earn an A grade compared to those in traditional lab settings. These positive results extended across all student demographics and were instrumental in ASU’s decision to transition all of its introductory biology labs to the Dreamscape Learn platform. Since its launch in 2022, the program has reached over 25,000 students at ASU, demonstrating its scalability and effectiveness. Caldwell University aims to ensure that every student has the opportunity to experience this technology.
Expanding Access and Fostering Innovation
Beyond classroom integration, Caldwell University plans to support student-led development of custom VR content, fostering a new generation of creators and innovators. The university is actively seeking grant opportunities to expand the reach of immersive learning, aiming to provide access to local schools and community organizations. This commitment to accessibility underscores Caldwell’s dedication to serving as a regional educational leader. The university’s 70-acre campus, located just west of New York City, provides a modern learning environment equipped with advanced technology.
Dreamscape Learn itself is a collaborative venture between Dreamscape Immersive and Arizona State University, combining advanced pedagogy with the emotional storytelling techniques honed in the entertainment industry.
