An important personality of the Letters, according to the Church online and the Saint, Saint Nikodimos, whose original name was Nikolaos Kaliboursis, was born in Naxos in 1749 AD. from intelligent parents. In fact, his mother Anastasia became a nun in the Holy Monastery of Chrysostomos Naxos and took the name Agathi.
He learned his first letters in Naxos and then at the school of the same city he increased his knowledge, under the teacher of the brother of Agios Kosmas de Aitolos, Archimandrite Chrysanthos. At the age of 16, he studied at the Greek school of Smyrna, where he came into contact with famous teachers of the time.
When he was ordained a monk, how he went to Mount Athos
After several incidents, in 1775 AD. went to Mount Athos. There, in the Monastery of Agios Dionysios, a monk named Nikodimos was ordained. The Fathers of the Monastery, who recognized Nicodemus’ great natural gifts, appointed him a reader and secretary of the Monastery. In this Monastery, Nicodemus was a model of ministry and deeds of victory.
He then retired to a cell, where he devoted himself, in an ascetic manner, to studying and writing many phonetic, theological and sacred books. Among them are “Synaxaristis”, “Eortodromion”, “Nea Klimaka”, “Invisible War” and many others.
Finally, after various incidents, he fell asleep from hemiplegia, at the age of 60, on July 14, 1809 AD. in the cell of Skourtai, in the Caryes of Mount Athos.
The last words were the answer he gave to his disciples when they asked him if he was quiet: “I put Christ in me and how can I not be quiet?”.
He was buried in Lavriotach Skourtaia in the capital of Mount Athos, leaving behind a huge spiritual work of writing, which today is the capital of the people of the Orthodox Church.
His chariot is located on Mount Athos, but according to others, part of it was also moved to Pentalofos monastery in Kilkees. In 1955 the Church recognized him among the Saints.
