The UAESP participated in the clean-up day on the banks of the Cali River.
- Papayogging the Cali River allowed volunteers and athletes to remove more than 3 tons of waste from the Cali River.
- Due to the incorporation of Isla Bonita and other tourist areas in the 42 kilometer route, the route is attractive for ecotourism, which helps the economic reactivation of the city.
- The cleaning and care of the Cali River was promoted with an 8.2 kilometer route, which stretches from the Orchid Park to the Teatrino del Rio.

This Monday, October 14, 2024, a day called Papayogging was held in Cali, organized by the La Papaya Foundation in collaboration with various District Organizations, in favor of the environment. Starting at 7:00 am, more than 450 people gathered to start a journey, where, walking and running, all kinds of waste were collected around the Cali River.
For every kilogram of waste collected, participants received 1,000 papayas, a digital currency they can exchange for days or weeks at Bodytech. In addition, this initiative helps vulnerable young people get scholarships for their studies. This incident represents 80% of the project underway to recover the river route from the Zoo sector to the Floralia neighborhood.
“Since the administration of Mayor Alejandro Eder, we have been promoting environmental awareness, promoting the proper management of solid waste, protecting the environment and carrying out activities that prevent the garbage of our resources to contaminate water,” said Camilo Murcia, director of the Special Administrative Unit of Cali Public Services.
“The ‘Papayogging’ race is not just a sporting activity, but a commitment to the environment. It means creating Environmental Awareness, encouraging waste collection, creating a positive impact on the environment and promoting the cleanliness of the Cali River,” said Felipe Velásquez, head of the La Papaya organization.
Ecological Education: The young people and schools that took part learned about the importance of caring for the environment, civic responsibility and recycling.
Sports Promotion: By combining exercise with environmental activity, a healthy and active lifestyle is promoted, encouraging more people to run or walk.
Community Commitment: The activity not only unites people for a common cause, but also strengthens the sense of community and belonging to Cali.
