Calicut University Witnessing Dispute between Governor and Government

Tenjipalam: The state president of MSF, P.K. Nawaz, has raised concerns about the growing dispute between the governor and the government at Calicut University. Nawaz accused the leftist government of aiding the governor in implementing RSS agendas in Kerala, using the constitutional status not only in the universities. These remarks were made during a press conference on the university campus.

Nawaz also criticized the governor for turning a blind eye to the government’s backdoor appointments and the ongoing power struggle between the two parties. He cited the recent cancellation of the appointment of the vice chancellor of Kannur University as a prime example of the unyielding politics at play.

Furthermore, Nawaz highlighted the irregularities surrounding the Calicut University Syndicate, which has seen a new Syndicate election not being held despite the expiration of its term. He accused the Nominated Syndicate of being formed solely on political criteria, neglecting academic standards.

Nawaz called out the SFI, the student organization leading the protest, for not speaking out against the blatant disregard for norms and the questionable appointments. He claimed that the student community will recognize the hypocrisy of the SFI for only protesting on certain issues while remaining silent on others, such as student fees, exam schedules, and opportunities for further studies.

The MSF president also criticized the alleged collusion between the government and DYFI leaders, who have been nominated to the syndicate in institutions, including Calicut University. He accused the SFI of engaging in a “drama of struggle” to distract from their recent defeats in campus, school, and polytechnic elections.

The ongoing dispute at Calicut University has raised concerns about the politicization of academic institutions and the impact on students and faculty. As the tensions escalate, it remains to be seen how this conflict will be resolved and the implications it will have on the university’s governance.
