by time news

Los Angeles: The National Weather Service warned that a winter storm that will bring heavy snow, rain and wind will hit California. Weather forecasters also said that the weather is expected to return to normal by next week.

By Sunday local time, the storm will move toward Oklahoma and Texas. A blizzard warning remains in effect for the mountains around Los Angeles and the northern Sierra Nevada range until Saturday afternoon.

As the storm approaches Oklahoma and Texas, it will be in the form of thunderstorms with the potential for a tornado, said Bob Larson, senior meteorologist at Accuweather.

By the end of the storm, up to 5 feet (1.5 m) of snow is expected on some mountains near Los Angeles. Wind gusts up to 75 mph (120 km/h) create whiteout conditions. So the authorities asked the drivers to avoid dangerous roads.

Avalanche warnings, the first for the Big Bear, Lake Arrowhead and Wrightwood mountain areas, and covering the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties are in effect until 4 p.m.

Major roads around the United States have been closed due to inclement weather. More than 1,000 flights were delayed and more than 850 canceled on Friday morning.
