Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser on Shipping and Textiles and Jute, urged local and foreign businessmen, entrepreneurs and investors to invest in the potential new jute, textile and shipping industries of Bangladesh.
He said these things during a meeting with the business delegation of Europe-Bangladesh Federation of Commerce and Industry (EBFCI) at the Advisory Secretariat on Wednesday (October 2).

Shipping and textile and jute advisor said, we got a new Bangladesh through the revolution of students. That Bangladesh is a dream and has immense potential. That Bangladesh will be corruption and harassment free. Every foreign and domestic investment in Bangladesh will be safe and risk free. I am calling on all domestic and foreign businessmen, entrepreneurs, investors including EBFCI to invest in the potential of this new jute, textile and shipping industry of Bangladesh.
He said, “It is very sad to say that the misrule of the last 15 years has destroyed the jute and textile industry like all other sectors of the country. Jute and textile mills have been closed down for private interests. The whole country is immersed in bribery, irregularities and corruption.
At that time, the business delegation welcomed the interim government formed through a successful coup by the students and said that the person who is the chief advisor of the current government is not only a Nobel laureate but also a great personality internationally accepted. Dr. Through the government formed under the successful leadership of Muhammad Yunus, new doors of opportunities and possibilities are being opened in Bangladesh. Now is the right time to invest in Bangladesh.
Sakhawat Hossain said that the current government is very investment friendly. The government welcomes foreign investment in any sector. Government is working to create favorable environment for investment. Where the state reforms are undertaken, structural and legal reforms will be made to create an easy investment environment.
At that time, when the business delegation drew the advisor’s attention to the complications in clearing goods at various ports, he said, there is no scope for any irregularities. All concerned including port customs have been warned about this. However, strict legal action will be taken if there is any corruption or irregularity with the traders.
