On November 25, 1946, by Presidential Decree, the INCan was officially born. Initially, it only had Outpatient, Laboratory, X-ray and Pathology services, among others.

In 1980, it changed its facilities to occupy the building where it is currently located, that is, Av. San Fernando No. 22. Since then, the emerging areas of Basic and Clinical Research have gained importance. Instead, today the INCan is considered the best-equipped cancer center in Latin America and several European countries.

On the other hand, although cancer is a global problem, the increase in its incidence in Mexico is greater than in other countries. According to the figures of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI)the number of people who died from malignant tumors in the last decade went from 6.18 to 7.17 deaths per 10,000 inhabitants.

Due to the lack of timely diagnosis and treatment, cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. According to World Health Organization (WHO), one in six deaths is related to this condition. The five types of cancer that cause the greatest number of deaths are lung, colorectal, liver, gastric and breast.
