Calls for regulation of heliskiing in the mountains surge amidst rising interest

by time news

The popularity of helicopter skiing has increased in recent years, with more people seeking the perfect ski experience in the mountains. However, this form of tourism is not without controversy, as the growing number of helicopter lifts is viewed as disruptive by both the visitor industry and reindeer herders in Kirunafjällen. The practice also puts stress on sensitive natural areas.

Currently, there are no regulations in place for helicopter skiing. The County Administrative Board in Norrbotten is now calling on the government to investigate how this activity can be regulated. As there is no legislation governing this type of activity, the County Administrative Board is unable to take action. They are, however, tasked with informing the government about developments in the county and recommending necessary measures. County Governor Lotta Finstorp is drawing attention to the issue and seeking urgent action from the government.

In recent years, interest in being transported out into the mountain world by helicopter in search of the perfect ski ride has increased.

Is currently unregulated

There, the County Administrative Board in Norrbotten now wants the government to urgently investigate how the conditions for helicopter skiing can be regulated. Today it is practically unregulated.

– The County Administrative Board follows the development but has no opportunity to act because there is no legislation for this type of activity.
