The long-standing Bundesliga manager Reiner Calmund certifies that the ailing national soccer team is a quality problem and not a coaching problem. “What should he do?” Calmund told the German Press Agency, referring to national coach Hansi Flick. “Even another coach would not have any other player material.”

The national team is also lacking in defenders at the highest international level.
“It’s important now that we lower expectations. We don’t have this potential and we can’t blame the players for that,” said Calmund. “Instead, we have to ask ourselves: What can we improve in the youth work?
