A new road drama. This time, it was on the Normandy side that a serious accident occurred reports West-France. On this Sunday before the start of the school year, around 9 a.m., twenty-five cyclists, licensed in a club in Noues-de-Sienne, were violently hit by a van, driven by a man in his thirties.

Eight were injured, three of them seriously according to the first elements communicated. Three men, all in their 70s, aged 70, 71 and 77 respectively, were transported in absolute urgency to Caen University Hospital by firefighters. Their vital prognosis would not be engaged.

Negative toxicological screenings

The van driver was tested for alcohol and drug use. These tests would have turned out to be negative. The visibility conditions are believed to be the cause of the collision, the driver of the van having been dazzled by the sun.

The accident took place on departmental road 81, near Sainte-Marie-Laumont, a town attached to Souleuvre-en-Bocage (Calvados). The cyclists were doing their usual Sunday outing when they crossed paths with the vehicle.

The departmental road, scene of the violent shock, was closed to all traffic, in both directions, while the emergency services intervened. The traffic was finally partially restored there, this Sunday, around noon according to the local daily.
