Antofagasta is set for a major sports upgrade, as the local Municipal Council recently authorized funding for a comprehensive renovation of the Calvo y Bascuñán stadium. The ambitious project aims to transform the venue into a premier sporting facility, capable of hosting events at the highest levels.
The planned improvements include the installation of a new synthetic grass field certified by both FIFA and World Rugby, alongside an athletics track designed to meet the rigorous standards of World Athletics. This upgrade has been enthusiastically received by local athletes and sports officials alike.
A Boost for Local Athletes
Local athletes are notably excited about the track renovations, which will address existing difficulties and create a safer, more conducive habitat for training and competition. Runner Felipe Morales, a participant in national events, believes the improvements will have a ripple effect, inspiring more young people to take up the sport.
