Cam Atkinson to Retire as Columbus Blue Jackets After Illustrious NHL Career

A celebrated career will come full circle as forward Cam Atkinson will officially retire as a member of the Columbus Blue jackets, the team announced today.The club will honor Atkinson prior to their game against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, October 16, wiht a press conference scheduled for 11:30 a.m.ET at Nationwide Arena and streamed live on BlueJackets.com and the club’s YouTube page.
A Decade of Dominance in Columbus
Atkinson, 36, spent the first ten seasons of his National Hockey League journey with the Blue Jackets, from 2011 to 2021. during that time, he established himself as a fan favorite and a key offensive contributor, amassing 213 goals and 189 assists for a total of 402 points in 627 games. He also accumulated 146 penalty minutes and maintained a +17 plus/minus rating.
His impact on the franchise is undeniable, placing him among the Blue Jackets’ all-time leaders in numerous statistical categories. Atkinson currently ranks second in franchise points (behind Rick Nash with 547), second in goals (Nash-289), and is tied for second in game-winning goals (42, alongside Nash). He also holds the second-highest number of shots on goal (1,883, trailing Nash’s 2,278), stands third in power play goals (42), fourth in power play points (95), and fifth in total assists.
