YES Network Cameraman Hospitalized After Being Hit by Errant Throw at Yankees-Orioles Game

In a scary incident during Wednesday’s game between the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium, YES Network cameraman Pete Stendel was hit by an errant throw and had to be taken to the hospital. Updates on Stendel’s condition were provided by the YES Network on Twitter, confirming that he is conscious and undergoing tests.

The unfortunate incident occurred when Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson threw a high ball over first base, hitting Stendel in the head. Play immediately stopped, and both teams left the field while medical staff attended to Stendel. YES Network play-by-play broadcaster Michael Kay revealed that Stendel was responsive and talking to the medical staff.

As Stendel was being transported off the field on a stretcher, he raised a peace sign to the concerned crowd. The game eventually resumed, with the Orioles ultimately defeating the Yankees 6-3.

According to the backstory, the incident happened in the fifth inning when Anthony Volpe hit a grounder to second baseman Adam Frazier. Frazier then made a throw to second base for an out, and Henderson’s subsequent throw over first base struck Stendel as he was looking through his camera. Stendel fell down, and his legs kicked out upon impact.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone expressed his concern for Stendel, stating that he is praying for him. He described the scene as very scary and hoped for the best regarding Stendel’s condition. Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo also voiced his worries and wished for Stendel’s well-being, emphasizing that any incident involving a person on the field is always distressing.

Michael Kay, who described Stendel as a “terrific guy,” sent positive thoughts to the injured cameraman on Twitter along with the rest of the YES Network crew.

The baseball community hopes for a speedy recovery for Pete Stendel and encourages everyone to prioritize safety on and off the field.
