The English-speaking regions of Cameroon are once again the scene of an unbearable drama. According to an alert launched by Dr KontriMan Jr, whistleblower specializing in the Anglophone crisis, the reverend father and the catechist of New Town Barombi Kotto were kidnapped by separatist terrorists. A heinous act which plunges the community into fear and disarray.
A brutal kidnapping orchestrated by Lucifer’s gang
The details of the kidnapping are chilling. According to information relayed by 237online.com, it is the infamous Lucifer gang which is behind this kidnapping. Arriving on 5 motorcycles, these lawless terrorists brutally kidnapped the priest and the catechist, spreading panic in this peaceful village in the North West. A violent and expeditious mode of operation, which has become the sinister signature of the separatists.
The church, recurring target of separatists
Unfortunately, this is not the first time that men of the church have been targeted by armed groups operating in the English-speaking regions. Kidnappings, assassinations, desecrations… The separatists do not hesitate to attack representatives of the Church, in a desperate attempt to impose their law through terror. A strategy as cowardly as it is cruel, which aims to undermine the last bastions of peace and hope in these battered regions.
The community in shock, the families devastated
For the residents of New Town Barombi Kotto, it is shock and dismay. The reverend father and the catechist were loved and respected figures, pillars of the community. Their kidnapping leaves an immense and painful void. The families of the victims are devastated, consumed by anguish and uncertainty. What will become of their loved ones? What terrible ordeals will they have to endure at the hands of their unscrupulous captors?
A desperate appeal to the authorities
Faced with this umpteenth tragedy, the populations of the English-speaking regions are launching a desperate appeal to the Cameroonian authorities. It is time for the government to fully appreciate the seriousness of the situation and act firmly to protect civilians. Every day that passes without decisive action is a day too many, a day that exposes innocent victims to horror and barbarity.
The Anglophone crisis, a gaping wound for Cameroon
This terrible kidnapping is a painful reminder that the Anglophone crisis is far from being resolved. Since 2016, the North-West and South-West regions have been torn apart by a bloody conflict which has left thousands dead and displaced. A conflict with deep roots, nourished by decades of frustrations and resentments. As long as courageous political solutions are not implemented, as long as dialogue and reconciliation are not at the heart of priorities, this wound will continue to bleed, taking away its share of innocent lives every day.
Today, all our thoughts are with Reverend Father and New Town catechist Barombi Kotto, as well as their families and community. We pray for their speedy and unconditional release. But beyond that, we are calling for a national surge, for a mobilization of all the country’s active forces to put an end to this infernal spiral of violence. Because each Cameroonian kidnapped, each life shattered, is one tragedy too many. It is time, more than ever, for peace and humanity to triumph over the demons of hatred and discord.
