This is the big event of this 58th edition of the Youth Festival in Cameroon. The World Youth Camp officially opened its doors this Thursday, February 8, 2023, bringing together nearly 5,000 young people at the Yaoundé Omnisports Stadium for 3 days. Atmosphere.

The event is historic. For the very first time, Cameroon is hosting the World Youth Camp, a large mass bringing together around 5,000 participants from across the country and the sub-region.

An exceptional mobilization of youth

In the presence of the Minister of Youth and Civic Education Mounouna Foutsou, thousands of young people aged 15 to 35 took their places in the stands of the Omnisports stadium in Yaoundé this Thursday, for the launch of this camp international organized by the National Youth Council of Cameroon (CNJC).

Among them, a strong delegation of several dozen young South Korean leaders, South Korea being the guest country of honor for this first edition. But also representatives of youth from other African countries, as well as from all regions of Cameroon.

Intercultural exchanges and program training

For 3 days, 8 to 10 hours per day, this exceptional mobilization will constitute a privileged space for exchanges between the cultures and ideas of youth.

But also a place to strengthen knowledge through training modules on key themes: leadership, civic engagement, social entrepreneurship, human rights, etc.

With the key to valuable learning intended to equip these young people in their contribution to the development of the Nation.

A revolutionary method from Korea

The icing on the cake: this training will be based on the “Mind Education” method directly imported from South Korea.

Popularized by the partner NGO International Youth Fellowship, this revolutionary approach aims to bring about a profound change in mentalities. A Cameroonian delegation also went to South Korea last year for in-depth training in this method.

Promote the emergence of a “ society of positive values«

Through this initiative, the Cameroonian authorities intend “promote the emergence of a society of positive values” among new generations, an objective regularly put forward by the Head of State Paul Biya.

It remains to be seen whether this pilot experiment will boost the government’s educational action, while the Ministry of Youth is still struggling to stem the scourge of ” incivism » among 12-35 year olds… Success or failure? The appointment has already been made in 3 years for a second World Youth Camp in Cameroon.
