World Alzheimer’s Day will take place on Wednesday 21 September this year. On this day, attention is drawn around the world for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, and the impact of this disease on the person himself and his environment.

In Weert and Nederweert, just like in many other places, the aim is to create a dementia-friendly society. Punt Welzijn and other organizations therefore organize various activities especially for people with dementia and their loved ones.

Such as on September 14, when dementia-friendly tours are given in Museum Weert. Visitors can view the museum’s collection in peace before regular opening hours. A day later, informal carers and professionals who work with people with dementia can visit the cinema film ‘Supernova’ for free. A film about Sam (Colin Firth) and his friend Tusker with dementia (Stanley Tucci) who travel through England together in a camper. This evening, employees of informal care support and the Alzheimer Café will be present to provide more information and to talk to the visitors.

Sensory Walk

Furthermore, on Saturday 17 September it is possible to take part in a sensory walk in the vicinity of the De IJzeren Man Nature and Environment Center and the RAAK! project. This is a free art and culture program for people living at home with a forgetful brain and their loved ones. It is still possible to participate in four meetings with the theme of music (September) and the meetings focused on dance (October). The series of activities will be concluded with an inspiring performance during the Alzheimercafé on Monday 19 September.

Country

In September, Punt Welzijn will publish a campaign to draw attention to a dementia-friendly society. More and more people are getting this disease and that means that almost everyone will have to deal with it. In club life, as an entrepreneur or employee, as a neighbour, friend or perhaps as a partner.
