“Toto Free!”: Dozens of animal rights activists gathered on Thursday in northern France in front of an animal pound to protest against a plan to euthanize a wild boar adopted by a family, on the eve of the decision of the snake.

The One Voice Group has called for this conference in Saint-Laurent-Blangy, joined by L214, the Animal Group and the Revolution for Life Group (REV).

Activists expect “a little humanity from the prosecution,” said Arnaud Bienvenu, a father and hunter who caught Toto as a wild animal, after he was injured in a hunting trip, early October.

The activists were able to see from a great distance and the silhouette of the animal in its enclosure in the pound, noted an AFP reporter.

This wild boar “is locked in an irregular enclosure (…) We have to move from here quickly”, explained Mr. Bienvenu.

To avoid death from wild animals, the city of Charleville-Mézières, whose department has a wild animal as its symbol, offered to welcome it in its city park.

On Tuesday, the mayor of Arras Frédéric Leturque indicated that he had “asked the president of the Douai Court of Appeal to prevent the death” of the wild animal.

According to Me Christophe Gérard, justice accused the wild animal of representing “a health risk”.

It has been suspected that he carries Aujesky’s disease, or swine fever, but this risk has not been proven according to the groups, the analyzes are contradictory and the animal is still alive.

He is named Toto in reference to the movie “Go, Toto”, the story of a wild boar that escapes from hunting in Normandy.

“Is it a man who puts the other at a distance and can condemn them to death” or “he who shows humanity, compassion?”, Leslie Mortreux, pointed out by REV.

In June, the Arras trial court opposed euthanizing the wild boar, but the prosecution appealed and the Douai appeals court must rule on it on Friday.

Several petitions to say “No to the decision to euthanize Toto” totaled more than 132,000 signatures on Wednesday, according to the groups.
