BRASILIA (Reuters) – The president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, and the directors of the municipality attended the demonstration of employees at the entrance to the bank’s headquarters this Wednesday in support of the employees’ standard operation movement, which is being intensified.

The board of directors posed for a photograph alongside employees dressed in t-shirts from the National Union of Central Bank Employees (Sinal). The interaction took place during a break in the Monetary Policy Committee meeting (), which is expected to announce a new cut in the basic interest rate after the markets close this Wednesday.

Local authority employees have been working under standard operating conditions since the beginning of July to pressure the government to promote a career restructuring at BC, in addition to claiming a type of productivity bonus.

Campos Neto and other directors had already expressed support for the demands, citing concern about the devaluation of their careers and the risk of losing staff.

In recent months, the BC delayed the release of some indicators, citing the movement of servers as a justification.

Last week, Sinal announced that the standard operation would be intensified from this Wednesday “with profound implications for the functioning of the body”, including delays in the implementation of the Drex digital currency and the Pix Parcelado project.

“If the government’s negligence continues, the indication of an indefinite strike from the second half of November may be presented to the category,” the union said in a statement.

The Copom is expected to announce this Wednesday the third consecutive cut of 0.5 percentage points in the basic interest rate, which would be 12.25% per year.
