In this period of inflation, the solution of campsites is attracting more and more French people. Two months away from the summer holidays, professionals are expecting a record summer with, in particular, bookings on the rise.
In this campsite in La Tranche-sur-Mer (Vendée), this retired couple takes up residence for a three-day stay. “We did a lot of rentals, but there, it has nothing to do. It’s the holiday spirit. You have an exterior”, rejoices this tourist. Like this couple, more and more of them are turning to campsites to find a bit of a good time. It shouldn’t take long to decide, as reservations were made very early this year.
Shorter stays closer to home
Compared to last year, outdoor hotels in Vendée have a 20% lead on summer bookings. Customers prefer shorter stays, with close proximity to home. “We know that with inflation, gasoline and basic necessities are expensive. It’s a way to save money to leave at all costs”, analyzes Franck Chadeau, president of the Vendée federation of outdoor hotels. The only downside: campsites are struggling to find seasonal workers.
