At the start of the match, the Atlas Lions tried to break down the Tanzanian defense thanks to an action by Youssef En-Nesyri in the 9th minute who did not find the top corner, before Hakim Ziyach attempted a deep pass (17th) which was pushed away by the defense.

Cautious at the start of the match, the Tanzanians formed an opaque defensive block against Walid Regragui’s men who maintained their pressure, particularly on the flanks, in order to find an opportunity to open the score.

The Atlas Lions managed to break through the Tanzanian defence in the 30th minute, thanks to captain Ghanem Saïss who took a direct free kick taken by Hakim Ziyach and pushed back by goalkeeper Aishi Manula.

This first goal freed Walid Regragui’s men who almost found the back of the net again through Youssef En-Nesyri (32nd), Hakim Ziyech (35th) and Abdessamad Ezzalzouli (38th).

Back from the locker room, the Atlas Lions tried to widen the gap, notably through En-Nesyri who was very dynamic in depth on two occasions.

This second period was marked by a surge from the “Taifa Stars”, with an opportunity not converted in the 67th minute, before the expulsion of Novatus Miroshi in the 70th minute.

Walid Regragui’s protégés then rolled out their steamroller, showing their great talent and their impressive team play, with a second goal from Azzedine Ounahi (77th) superbly worked at the end.

The national team sealed the fate of the match with a third goal from Youssef En-Nesyri in the 80th minute.

With this big victory in their first match of the CAN-2023, the Atlas Lions confirm their good form, after their epic at the Qatar World Cup, and wish to continue on this momentum to go for the grail.
