CAN-2025 qualifiers (Lesotho/Morocco): Finding the right balance (Regragui)

Agadir – After two prolific outings against Congo (6-0) and Gabon (4-1), the national coach, Walid Regragui, stressed, Sunday in Agadir, that he is still looking for the right balance between offensive efficiency and defensive solidity.

“Against Gabon, we were very offensive, we scored goals, but the defensive withdrawal was not so intense and fast,” explained Regragui, during a press conference before the match against Lesotho, scheduled for Monday, for the 2nd day of the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (CAN Morocco-2025). He added that it is now necessary to tighten the spaces, be very strong in the battle for the second ball and manage the rises of the two backs. Walid Regragui affirmed that these qualifiers remain an opportunity to give the youngsters a chance, to test new formulas, to “make mistakes and correct them”, in order to be as effective as possible during the CAN and in the qualifiers for the World Cup. In this sense, he said that he will give the opportunity to new faces against Lesotho and in the upcoming matches. “Afterwards, there will be choices to make to have more certainty,” said the national coach. On the other hand, Regragui was keen to point out that he is careful to choose the right moment to give the young players a chance in order to “not burn them out mentally”. The match against Lesotho is scheduled for Monday (8:00 p.m.) at the grand stadium in Agadir.
