The blick reader Heinz Gisin asks: Can a huge camper, for example in the city, be legally parked in two parking spaces in the blue zone?
I have a 7.5 meter long motorhome. If I park in the blue zone, I occupy two spaces. Can I put two parking cards in the vehicle to avoid fines?
Heinz Gisin, against the Post
Where parking spaces are marked, vehicles must be parked within these spaces at all times – completely. This is what the Signage Order (Art. 79 para. 6 SSV) provides for white parking spaces as well as the blue zone (Art. 48a. SSV). The use of these marked parking spaces is reserved for the vehicles for which they are intended. Parking spaces reserved for a vehicle type or user group may only be used by that vehicle type or user group. In the blue zone, the duration of use is also limited in time (Appendix 3, Section 1 SSV).

As soon as a vehicle is too long or too wide and therefore no longer fits in the parking space, this vehicle is usually not allowed to park there. As a result, motorcycles, for example, cannot be parked in parking spaces for cars – or cars in parking spaces for trucks or cars.
Even two tickets are not allowed
But to return to your specific question: No, any vehicle that is too long cannot be parked in parking spaces where the length is defined – not even with two parking tickets. Instead, you have to look for a parking space for your motorhome where the individual parking spaces are not limited. However, you must still ensure that your vehicle is not too wide for the marked parking space. This could be really good for a big motorhome like me.
In addition, of course, the provisions of the traffic regulations regarding parking must be generally obeyed. According to Article 19 VRV, parking is prohibited on main streets outside and within towns if there is not enough space for two motor vehicles to cross, as well as cycle lanes and on the adjacent road. You are also not allowed to park closer than 20 meters on railway crossings, on bridges and in front of entrances to other people’s buildings or properties.
