After the 6th edition held in 2020 in Laâyoune, the futsal CAN is organized for the second consecutive time in Morocco, which once again confirms the Kingdom’s reputation as a host of sporting events par excellence.

Thanks to its numerous assets in terms of infrastructure and sports equipment meeting international standards, accommodation and logistics, the Kingdom has become a preferred destination for hosting major continental and international sports competitions, such as of the futsal CAN, and is preparing to host the football CAN in 2025 and the World Cup in 2030 with Spain and Portugal.

During this 7th edition of the CAN, which promises to be exciting with highly contested matches, African futsal will be in the spotlight in Rabat from April 11 to 21.

For the occasion, the Ibn Yassine hall and the Sports Palace of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat were renovated to accommodate eight of the best African futsal teams who will compete for the coveted continental title.

Double title holders, the national team, which has displayed sparkling form in recent years, clearly stands out from the crowd to shine again during this competition and win a third title in a row on home soil and in front of its public.

Egypt, finalist in the last three editions and champion three times, a record, will also be there, as will Libya, crowned in 2008.

Ghana, former finalist, Angola, third in 2020, Zambia, Namibia and Mauritania will try, for their part, to play spoilsport.

In addition to the continental coronation, the other challenge of this CAN is qualification for the next World Cup. The two finalist teams and the one finishing third will win their ticket for this World Cup scheduled from September 14 to October 6 in Uzbekistan.

During the last edition of the Futsal World Cup in 2021 in Lithuania, Africa was represented by Morocco, quarter-finalists, Egypt and Angola.

The African Futsal Cup of Nations, which until 2015 was called the African Futsal Championship and which is organized every four years, constitutes an opportunity to celebrate futsal, a sporting discipline which is currently experiencing a real craze.

Very spectacular and prolific in terms of goals, futsal, a sort of five-a-side football played indoors, now benefits from good media coverage and has ever more fans around the world.

In Morocco, this sporting discipline continues to shine and gain even more fans and the prowess of the national team is necessarily not unrelated to the popularity of futsal in Morocco.

The building of a strong national team, ranked 8th in the world, is not the result of chance but of an increased interest of several clubs in this discipline, the enthusiasm of the Moroccan public and considerable support of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

The exploits of the national team were accompanied by a significant development of the national championship, going from a championship with two groups to a professional championship, thanks in particular to the support of the FRMF which offers the optimal conditions for success.

This discipline also shines in Morocco thanks to high-level national technical supervision, ambitious clubs, talented players and passionate supporters.
