Canada delivers more Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine

by time news

Canada will deliver four additional Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced this today on the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The number of German-made main battle tanks made available by Canada has thus increased to a total of eight.

“Canada has stood firmly with Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict” and will continue to do so, Trudeau said in Toronto. His office said four Leopard 2 tanks have already been delivered to Poland, where Ukrainian soldiers are being trained on them.

In addition to the four other Leopard tanks now announced, Canada is sending armored vehicles and ammunition.

The Canadian head of government also announced further sanctions against 192 Russian individuals and organizations. They target, among others, Russian MPs who supported the invasion of Ukraine, military officials and family members of people already on Canada’s sanctions list.

Trudeau called Russian President Vladimir Putin “dangerous, cowardly and weak”. He emphasized: “We know that this fight is not over.”
