He Government of Mexicothrough its general Consulate in Montreal, Canadareceived in restitution 257 archaeological pieces, voluntarily handed over by the Mexican citizen Susana Zarcowho has resided in that country since 1968.
At the restitution ceremony, held on Monday, July 8, the Consul General of Mexico in Montreal, Victor Trevinoacknowledged and thanked Mrs. Zarco for her interest in returning this set of heritage elements to Mexico.

Based on an opinion made by specialists of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), it was established that the archaeological pieces delivered are property of the Mexican nation, in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Law on Archaeological, Artistic and Historical Monuments and Zones.
The analysis also determined that the 257 pieces are archaeological monuments, originating from various Mesoamerican civilizations, dated between the classical period (200 -900 AD) and end in the Postclassic (1200 – 1521 d.C.).

Meanwhile, the 257 archaeological pieces that will be returned to Mexico are added to the more than 13,500 pieces recovered within the framework of the #MiPatrimonioNoSeVende strategy, through which the Government of Mexico has reaffirmed its commitment to recover, safeguard and disseminate illegally looted heritage.
