Canada has imposed sanctions on Sri Lanka’s two former presidents, brothers Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mahinda Rajapaksa, as well as Army officer Sergeant Sunil Ratnayake and Lt. Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachi for human rights violations during Sri Lanka’s civil war.
This was announced today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Melanie Joly.
The ban is based on Canada’s Special Economic Activity Regulations.
Login permission denied
Debarred persons are denied entry into Canada under the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Canadian citizens are also prohibited from maintaining any financial, economic or property-related relationships within or outside of Canada with prohibited persons.
