Relations between Canada and China have been deteriorating recently. Conflict continues between the two countries on various issues. Because of this, Canadians in China and Chinese in Canada have been arrested and sentenced to prison on criminal charges.
In this situation, the famous rap singer from Canada has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for rape in China.
Kris Wu, a 32-year-old rapper, was arrested in December 2020 for raping a 17-year-old girl in China.
The Chaoyang District Court in the capital Beijing was investigating the case. Yesterday, when the case came to a final hearing, the judge declared the charges against Kris Wu guilty beyond reasonable doubt. Subsequently, the judge sentenced Kris Woo to 13 years in prison in this case.
Canada had no immediate comment on the matter.
