It is not legal for a person to have multiple birth registrations, Bangladesh Immigration and Passport Department has issued new guidelines. They have ordered to cancel the registration of multiple births.
An order in this regard was issued by the Passport Division of the Directorate of Immigration and Passports on Wednesday (September 11). The order was signed by the Assistant Director of the Directorate (Passport). Saddam Hussein
Some passport applicants have multiple birth registration certificates active, the order said. According to the Registration of Births and Deaths Act-2004, it is not legal for a person to have more than one birth registration. If multiple birth registrations exist for a person, please follow the procedure below.
The instructions are: If a person has multiple birth registrations online, contact the concerned registration office and instruct the concerned person to take initiative to cancel the other birth registrations while maintaining one birth registration. If a person has one birth registration online and one offline then the online birth registration should be considered.
Officials of the department say that the online birth registration program was closed for a year due to server complications of Dhaka South City Corporation. During this time, many registered births from Dhaka and outside Dhaka offline. They have submitted multiple birth registrations while applying for passports, which has created complications in passport preparation. Online birth registration has been proposed to make the passport process more transparent.
Note that everyone under the age of 18 needs birth registration to get a passport. Attestation of applicant’s parents or legal guardian is also required.
