As soon as the first federal states are in the summer holidays, the travel chaos starts again!

BILD tells you where to expect cancellations, delays and strikes.

Strike week in rail and air traffic in Italy

Tourists who want to go to Italy have to be prepared for strikes on the railways and in air traffic in the Mediterranean country this week. The staff of the state railway company “Trenitalia” and the employees of the private competitor “Italo” (similar to Flixtrain in Germany) want to stop work from Thursday morning, 3 a.m., to Friday morning, 2 a.m.

The railways expect significant cuts in the process and a number of train cancellations, especially in long-distance traffic. Travelers should find out about their connections in good time.

But that’s not all! A strike at the airports has been announced for Saturday, when the ground staff – for example at check-in – want to stop work from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Also on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. the pilots of “Malta Air”, which operate the Ryanair flights in Italy, want to go on strike.

And even with the actually very reliable low-cost airline “Vueling”, pilots and flight attendants are on strike on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Thousands of EasyJet passengers experienced the travel horror at London Gatwick with cancellations and delays! The airline canceled 1,700 flights, causing significant travel disruptions for many holidaymakers.

In some cases, passengers only found out about the cancellations on the plane. Around 180,000 passengers had to give up their flights scheduled for July, August and September because of “unprecedented” delays by air traffic control.

There are currently around 9,000 customers without an alternative route, after the company claims that 95 percent of travelers have booked alternative routes.

Neil Maslin told the DailyMail he had to spend the night in a rental car after hotels filled up following the many spontaneous cancellations of his flight. “Yesterday my flight to Munich was cancelled, today I can only get home from Heathrow with Lufthansa,” he said, paying £600 out of his own pocket.
