Cancer patients recognized health actions in the fight against this disease – Ministry of Public Health

Women members of the Fundación Jóvenes contra el Cáncer visited the authorities of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) to share a “heart to heart” hug, a dynamic of gratitude, for the actions of the health policy aimed in favor of cancer patients in the country.

“We want to move forward”, was the latent message of 40 people who met with José Ruales, Minister of Public Health in a space for dialogue; Gabriela Aguinaga and Carmen Guerrero, deputy ministers of the MSP. The delegation delivered to the authorities a survey on the barriers in breast cancer care, called “The Path of the Patient.”

Also, at the meeting, Gustavo Dávila, director of the Foundation, emphasized that they feel a change in the decisions that favor the treatment of cancer patients. In addition, he highlighted as significant the incorporation of 14 medicines in the Basic National Table and the opening to articulate projects with the MSP. “We are aware that the registration of people with rare diseases, the incorporation of anticancer drugs and the opening of the oncological area in Napo are important steps”, he pointed out.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Health took advantage of the moment to recognize the work and daily effort of women in the health institution. He reported that they represent 67% of all MSP personnel and that they guarantee access to comprehensive care.

Later, he referred to the national plan to strengthen health services for cancer care. “We will work on the prevention, screening, early diagnosis and treatment of breast, cervix, prostate and colon cancer. Four types of cancer that produce the most deaths, ”she said.

This State portfolio has scheduled the execution of a total of 40,000 molecular tests for detection by HPV genotyping for women between the ages of 30 and 65 in three diagnostic centers in Quito, Cuenca and Portoviejo during the first quarter of 2023.
