/ Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that British King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer, noting that he has begun a treatment program.

“While King Charles was being treated for a benign enlargement of the prostate in hospital recently, subsequent diagnostic tests identified a form of cancer,” the palace said in a statement.

The statement added, “The King today began a program of regular treatments, and during this period the doctors advised him to postpone his public duties.”

According to the statement, the King expressed his gratitude to his medical team for their rapid intervention, which was made possible thanks to the procedure he underwent in the hospital recently.

The statement from the Royal Palace indicated that “King Charles chose to share the patient’s diagnosis to prevent speculation, and in the hope that this will help the public understand all those affected by cancer around the world.”

The statement did not mention the type of cancer the 75-year-old king is suffering from. Charles spent three nights in hospital last month after undergoing corrective surgery for an enlarged prostate.
