In the state of Pernambuco, two new cases of the smell Candida auris. A State Department of Health (SES-PE) reported that the two patients are men, aged 50 and 54 years.

O White ears it is a “superfungus” which proved to be a serious threat to health due to the ability of the microorganism to resist potent antifungal drugs.
The first case of White ears in Brazil it was reported in November 2020, in a 59-year-old man, who was hospitalized in Salvador, Bahia. The fungus was detected after analysis by the Laboratory of Hospital das Clínicas de São Paulo and by the Central Public Health Laboratory Prof. Gonçalo Moniz (Lacen/BA).
The State Department of Health (SES-PE) reported that the two men who were confirmed with the fungus are hospitalized at the Hospital do Tricentenario, in Olinda. Currently, of the nine confirmed cases for White ears in the year 2023, five of them are from patients at Hospital do Tricentenario, according to the secretariat.
With this, the number of cases rises to nine in the year 2023. The patients entered the hospital with other health complaints, such as urinary tract infection and sequelae of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and did not show clinical manifestations due to the infection by the fungus .
Diagnoses were performed after carrying out surveillance tests for cases in relation to people who already had the diagnosis confirmed.
On Friday (02), the management of Hospital Miguel Arraes (HMA) and the State Health Department began the process of unlocking the unit’s beds. Unlocking will be done gradually. So far, 56 beds have been released, including 28 for general surgery and 28 for orthopedics. These beds will be used to receive patients referred by the State Central for Regulation of Beds. So far, the emergency sector is not receiving new patients.
