During a television program Friday evening, candidate Andry Rajoelina clearly declared his opposition to the idea of dissolving the High Constitutional Court (HCC) and the recomposition of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) in response to the demands of the Collective of candidates for the presidential election. For the outgoing president, the establishment of these bodies complies with the Constitution in force. He thus insists on the continuation of the current electoral process, totally expressing his disapproval of the dissolution of the HCC. For him, it is necessary to have confidence in existing institutions.

The idea of reorganizing the CENI was described by candidate No. 3 as an unreasonable proposal. This body is currently made up of personalities from the different bodies indicated by the law in force. He therefore believes that this idea of the collective of 11 candidates reflects the fear of facing the judgment of voters. However, for the collective, this body lacks neutrality given the political affiliation and harsh political leanings of most of its members.

Andry Rajoelina thus declares that the demands of the collective of candidates are not legal and insists on the need to maintain the electoral calendar. The Candidates’ Collective, for its part, is demanding the creation of a Special Electoral Court (CES), the formation of a new government, and the disqualification of Andry Rajoelina’s candidacy for the presidential election.

For Andry Rajoelina, the collective of candidates are disruptors and troublemakers. For several weeks now, this collective has been carrying out raids on the streets without any prior authorization from the prefecture and the competent authorities in this matter, forcing the police to mobilize and disperse them. These movements also caused injuries and even deaths, which the outgoing president described as intolerable.

For its part, the collective of 11 candidates continues to demand a peaceful demonstration which must reflect the freedom of expression which is guaranteed by the Constitution in the country. For this, these candidates seem to have benefited from the support of the international community who, through the ambassadors who work in the country, meet from time to time with them, and who, on several occasions, have demanded to let the parties of the opposition to express themselves.

Despite the declaration made the day before yesterday by the prefect on the ban on demonstrations without authorization, the collective of 11 candidates organized a march yesterday in the streets of the 2nd district of the capital, crossing Ambanidia. This Saturday again, they plan to meet in Antsonjombe, specifying that it is an authorized demonstration.
