Actually, the question on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” seems anything but unsolvable. But Tobias Pietsch messes up the answer – and leaves with his head held high.

In the current edition of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”, candidate Tobias Pietsch, owner of a hemp shop in Freiburg, suffered his second bitter defeat. In his first appearance five years ago, he had already plummeted to 500 euros. This time, a safety variant without a fourth joker with a guaranteed prize level of 16,000 euros was supposed to bring more success – but Pietsch didn’t even make it that far.

The man from Freiburg failed the 1,000-euro question. It was: “Whether someone speaks loudly or quietly, mumbles or speaks clearly and distinctly – are these all, so to speak…?” The following possible answers were presented: “A) catchphrases, B) quotes, C) platitudes or D) sayings?”

After thinking about it for a moment, Tobias Pietsch decided on answer C. His reasoning: “They are not slogans, they are not quotations, they are not sayings – they are platitudes.” But that turned out to be wrong. The correct answer would have been “D) sayings.”

Despite the renewed failure, Pietsch remained optimistic and told the audience: “Last time, after I fell down like that, I cried my eyes out the next morning, but then I realized: money doesn’t make you happy.” The last time he took part, he had planned to invest the winnings in the legalization of cannabis – but that has now worked out even without his donation. “That’s why I’m actually the happiest person in the world – and I’m leaving here with my head held high.”
