Cannabis legalization: traffic light won’t release weed anytime soon – domestic politics

by time news

When it comes to grass, the traffic light is on the brakes!

The SPD, FDP and Greens do not want to get the legalization of cannabis off the ground anytime soon. There is not even a schedule for approval, as the Funke media group reports. “The fight against the pandemic has priority,” said FDP health politician Andrew Ullmann (58) of the group.

The SPD domestic politician Sebastian Fiedler (48) becomes even clearer: “It’s not a good time for a cannabis bill right now.”

In its coalition agreement, Ampel agreed on a “controlled distribution of cannabis to adults for consumption in licensed shops”. This would “control the quality, prevent the transfer of contaminated substances and ensure the protection of minors”.

However, criticism has come from the CDU-governed countries. The Federal Government is “going the wrong way”, criticized Baden-Württemberg’s Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU). The release will “bring no noticeable relief” for the police.

Is called: The traffic lights must expect resistance in the Federal Council.

Even in the government, the parties are not entirely sure about the route of clearance. For the SPD security expert Fiedler, the price of cannabis is “one of the open questions with many unknowns”. He warned that “the illegal markets will try to take advantage of three influencing factors: lower prices, easier access, harder substances”. For Fiedler, too, a controlled levy means “that the security authorities must continue to fight the illegal markets”.

If the FDP has its way, weed will “primarily” be sold in pharmacies. According to Ullmann, companies should only be allowed to advertise cannabis in a “very limited” way. A price control is not provided.
