Cannes Film Festival Iranian Actress Award: Indian Documentary selected as Best

Cannes: The 75th Cannes Film Festival in France ended on a high note. Films from different countries were screened. The single shot film ‘Iravin Nihal’ directed by Parthiban in Tamil and ‘Rocketry: The Namby Effect’ directed by actor Madhavan were screened and received acclaim from world cinema stars. Indian film personalities including Kamal Haasan, AR Rahman, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Madhavan, Parthiban, Pooja Hegde, Deepika Padukone, Tamanna, Urvasi Rautala, Pa. Ranjith were present on the occasion.

Iranian actress Jar Amir Ibrahimi won the Best Actress award at the ceremony. The film ‘Holy Spider’, directed by Danish and Iranian director Ali Abbasi, was released in the early 2000s in the holy city of Mashad in the background of the true story of the alleged ‘spider killer’ who murdered several prostitutes. The film was shot in Iran and Jordan. It stars Iranian actress Jar Amir Ibrahimi, 41, as a journalist trying to solve a series of murders of prostitutes. The film is currently receiving Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival.

Award-winning Jar Amir Ibrahimi said, ‘I have come a long way to be on this platform. This is not a trivial matter. I was saved by the cinema. ‘ He made his film debut in ’20’s in his 20s.

Indian film director Saunak Sen’s documentary ‘All That Breathes’ has been nominated for Best Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Gold Eye Award. It is set against the backdrop of brothers Mohammad South and Nadeem Shehzad, who live in a dilapidated tent in Wazirabad, Delhi, rescuing and treating injured birds.
