Virginia Scardanzan Secures Bronze at Italian Athletics Championships, Extending Medal Count to Thirteen

A remarkable display of consistency has once again placed Italian athlete Virginia Scardanzan on the national podium. On Saturday, August 3, 2025, at the Chiggiate stadium in Caorle, Scardanzan, representing Athletics Silca Conegliano, claimed a bronze medal in the pole vault at the Absolute Italian Championships. This latest achievement brings her career total to an impressive thirteen medals across youth and absolute categories.

A Hard-Fought Bronze in Caorle

The 27-year-old athlete from Preganziol cleared a height of 4.12 meters on her second attempt, securing the bronze. While falling short of her personal best, Scardanzan demonstrated resilience, narrowly missing a 4.22-meter jump that would have propelled her into second place. The gold medal was claimed by Elisa Molinarolo (Fiamme Oro Padova) with a jump of 4.52 meters, followed by Maria Roberta Gherca (Air Force) at 4.22 meters.

Despite the result not fully reflecting her potential, Scardanzan’s performance underscores her consistent presence at major competitions. “Virginia always manages to exploit the competitive occasions that count,” a senior official stated, highlighting her ability to perform under pressure.

A Global Training Regimen

Scardanzan’s athletic journey is characterized by a diverse training background, spanning Italy, the United States, and Canada. Holding degrees in Kinesiology and Business, she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Sports Sciences and Sport Management.

Her training schedule reflects this international experience. Beginning in October 2024, Scardanzan trains in Ontario, Canada, under the guidance of Zdenek Krykorka and Doug Wood – a former Canadian record holder in the pole vault and coach to Alysha Newman, a bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She also benefits from the expertise of Coach Chiarello’s team in Padua, Italy. Scardanzan boasts a personal best of 4.45 meters outdoors and 4.40 meters indoors, skills honed by a previous background in artistic gymnastics until 2012.

A Legacy of Medals and Determination

With this bronze medal from Caorle, Scardanzan’s tally now includes eight medals from under-18, under-20, and under-23 competitions (two gold, two silver, and four bronze), alongside five absolute category medals (one silver and four bronze). “Caorle’s result is not representative of my capabilities,” Scardanzan acknowledged, “but I am happy with this latest medal, which rewards years of dedication and hard work.”

Athletics Silca Conegliano expressed immense pride in Scardanzan’s achievement. The club’s president emphasized her mental fortitude, stating, “Everyone has off days, but Virginia possesses a competitive spirit that consistently drives her to perform at her best. Even without achieving her ideal height, she managed the race with intelligence and determination.” The success of Scardanzan further validates the technical and training excellence of the Coneglian team, consistently ranked among the nation’s top programs.

Rising Stars Shine Alongside Established Champions

The championships also showcased the emergence of new talent, notably Giulia Tegale, a young athlete coached by Massimo Fork. Tegale delivered a standout performance in the 800 meters, achieving a new personal best of 2’05”04 in the preliminary heats before finishing eighth in the final with a time of 2’08”10. This result signals the growing competitiveness of middle-distance runners at the absolute level.
