Capio Accused of Fraud in Emergency Care Visits

A shocking revelation has emerged regarding emergency care visits for the elderly in Stockholm County. According to an investigation by SVT Stockholm, the care group Capio has been accused of making unnecessary emergency care visits and incorrectly registering visits for elderly patients in order to increase profits.

A former employee of Capio described the situation as “a fraud on a large scale” and labeled the entire operation as a scam. It is alleged that managers at the care group encouraged employees to log as many emergency room visits as possible in order to maximize profits.

The fraudulent activity reportedly takes place in special housing for the elderly in Stockholm County. In some cases, relatively minor complaints such as oral blisters and ingrown toenails were assessed and registered as acute cases, resulting in higher compensation for the care group from Region Stockholm.

Individual doctors were also implicated in the fraudulent practices, with the former employee claiming that doctors could potentially earn up to SEK 10,000 extra per month by incorrectly registering visits.

SVT Stockholm’s investigation included analysis of documents for invoices, journal entries, and open statistics, as well as interviews with whistleblowers. E-mails, registered care visits, and salary specifications seen by the channel confirmed the allegations.

Despite repeated requests, Capio has not agreed to a taped interview with SVT Stockholm. The company’s director of communications responded via email, stating that Capio takes the allegations seriously and intends to investigate thoroughly to clarify and ensure the facts.

The shocking allegations have raised serious concerns about the integrity and ethics of the emergency care system for the elderly in Stockholm County. Authorities and regulators will undoubtedly be called upon to investigate the matter and ensure that the well-being of vulnerable elderly patients is protected.
