On 7 September, from 6.30 pm, as part of the thirtieth anniversary of the Peperoncino Festival at the museum DAC from Diamante opens the vernissage for “Capsicum”, personal exhibition of digital art by Neapolitan Anna Corcione curated by Beatrice Cordaro.

Through the drawing and the anthropological investigation, the artist and the curator undertake to offer an alternative vision of the Peperoncino Fest, one of the most anticipated events of the summer, inviting us to dwell on the symbols of belonging and values that underpin the initiative. The exhibition was strongly supported by Enzo Monaco, journalist, inventor and active organizer of the Diamond Peperoncino Festival, president of the Peperoncino Academy he founded in the same municipality in 1994 and is now renowned in the country. «The attention paid by the director in organizing the personal exhibition was of fundamental importance, in the desire to seek links between traditions and languages of contemporary art», says Cordaro.

Capsicum Annuum is, in fact, the plant from which the chili pepper is obtained and mother generator of the symbol par excellence of the Calabrian land and in particular of Diamante. The roots are also already studied by Anna Corcione and protagonists of her works. In this work, Anna draws inspiration from Ernesto De Martino, Neapolitan anthropologist and philosopher, and from his concept of presence, in the anthropological sense understood as the ability to preserve in consciousness the memories and experiences necessary to respond adequately to the progress of history, participating actively.

At the DAC in Diamante, Corcione showcases innovative works: a contamination between traditional and digital art, pursuing the innovation that has kept the chili pepper up to the present day, as a protagonist of community life and to which, not surprisingly, a thirty-year festival is entitled. His intention is to create “a series of digital works that represent all the shapes of chillies, with a language different from painting and photography”. The result is that the “banal” chili becomes a sort of Aleph, “presence” and at the same time nostalgia for a splendid and rough land such as Calabria, an inner journey, a commitment to art and culture, a a symbol, in fact, around which relationships are strengthened and new ones are born that bud opportunities, of which Calabria especially, a region of never fully quantified and explored wealth and enormous potential, is in absolute need.
